To "Statin" or not to "Statin"

There have been many studies that proved the benefits of statin drugs that reduce bad chorestorol (LDL or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) as this one. But the American FDA has recently denied approval of drugs containing statin from being sold over the counter. The drug under review by the FDA was "Mevacor Daily". This was despite studies that showed no relationship between drugs containing statin and any negative effects including cancer. FYI, statin and its effects on bad chorestrol was arguably dubbed 2004's biggest medical breakthrough! It was also known to reduce the levels of 24S-Hydroxycholesterol in patients with Alzheimer's Disease. For a wealth of information on statin and studies made about it, go to google scholar.
